John
John, a licensed architect, and former Principal with Big Four accounting, has over 30 years of architecture, construction, tax and valuation experience, and founded Kevil & Kevil, LLC, which has been providing cost segregation and fixed asset consulting services since 2001. John has extensive experience in various aspects of valuation including Investment Tax Credit (ITC), Cost Segregation Analysis, Allocation of Purchase Price, property tax work, litigation support and determination of fair market value which includes: going concern value, orderly and forced liquidation values, and real property functional obsolescence analysis.
Relevant Professional Experience
John’s extensive Cost Segregation, Fixed Asset and valuation background includes all aspects of the hotel, resort, casino, and leisure industry, as well as wholesale and retail, distribution, restaurants, sports and stadium facilities, gaming facilities, recreation facilities, auto assembly facilities and extensive various light and heavy industrial and process facilities. John also has extensive experience in banking, as well as, retail, commercial and office building construction. Special purpose facilities include rocket manufacturing and assembly facilities, food preparation and processing facilities, munitions and weapons facilities, classified defense plants and mining facilities. John’s real property valuations include hotels and resorts, commercial and heavy industrial facilities including steel manufacturing, auto assembly and stamping plants, co-generation facilities, mining and ore processing, and machinery equipment. Mr. Kevil also has extensive experience in ITC and Cost Segregation audit support at the IRS review level spanning nearly thirty years.
John has extensive experience in Cost Segregation for offshore properties for both US and foreign tax reporting purposes, as well as US located properties for Japanese National Tax reporting purposes.
John is also a qualified expert witness and has testified in Federal Tax Court (Illinois) on 1245 and 1250 property classification issues, State Tax Court (Indiana) on industrial functional obsolescence issues, and Federal Bankruptcy Court (New Jersey) on natural gas pipeline valuation issues.
Education
John is a graduate of the University of Illinois Chicago School of Architecture with continuing education in Architecture and federal tax law relative to valuation and depreciation.
Professional Licenses / Accreditation
John is a licensed architect in Illinois and Wisconsin with certification (by NCARB exam) for National registration. In architecture, several of John’s buildings have received local recognition. John is a member of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), the Association of Licensed Architects (ALA).
